Church Membership

When individuals trust Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord, God sends the Holy Spirit to indwell them, seal them and baptize them into the body of Christ which is called the universal church, consisting of all the true followers of Jesus from all time.

There is also the local church, an assembly of true believers who meet together in a specific location. The apostle Paul refers to the local church as a body, an organism where each individual has distinct functions of service to the head who is Christ. The early church, described in Acts, met together to worship the Lord, for fellowship, instruction and to serve by going out to make disciples of Jesus.

We at WGC have many people who attend, and approximately half of the attendees have publicly committed to join arms with the other believers at WGC as members. Members in the local body at WGC are committed to obeying the Lord’s Great Command-to Love, and the Great Commission-to Go and Make Disciples.

Do you believe God has brought you to worship at WGC?
Are you a True Follower of Jesus Christ?
Is there any reason why you have not taken the step to become a member of this local body of believers?

We invite all non members to join us on Sunday September 13th, for a special luncheon after the worship hour to explain what membership is all about. If you are not a member, we encourage you to sign up today and plan to join us as we reach our world for Jesus.

One of the Ministries of Franklin Graham (Billy Graham’s son) is a ministry called Samaritan’s Purse, whose purpose is to provide for the phyiscal and spiritual needs of impoverished people throughout the world, focusing especially upon children and families.

One of their projects is Operation Christmas Child, a program in which the purchasing and preparing of shoe boxes with gifts for children helps to spread the good news of Christmas. These gifts are used as a means for making contact with families and children and the presenting the gospel, as well as teaching them about the person of Jesus and His gift of salvation.

Each year, we as a fellowship encourage one another to share the gospel of Jesus Christ by filling one or more Christmas shoe boxes. You will find the boxes on a table in the foyer of the church.
Please take as many as you want and don’t forget the instruction booklet.
Then bring them back to the church any time before November 15th.

What a great way to show the love of Christ to a child in a practical way!!!

Family Ministry

AND THESE WORDS THAT I COMMAND YOU TODAY SHALL BE ON YOUR HEART.  YOU SHALL TEACH THEM DILIGENTLY TO YOUR CHILDREN, AND SHALL TALK OF THEM WHEN YOU SIT IN YOUR HOUSE AND WHEN YOU WALK BY THE WAY, AND WHEN YOU LIE DOWN, AND WHEN YOU RISE.
– DEUTERONOMY 6:6-7, ESV

PARTNER.

EMPOWER.

PASS IT ON.

At WGC, we believe the church’s responsibility is to partner with and empower parents and families to live out and pass on their faith.

Our society tends to stretch and pull families in many different directions.  We want to be a place where families can spend quality time in their relationships with one another and ultimately with God.  We help to facilitate this in two ways:

• We connect the home to the church by encouraging parents to be involved in ministry with their children, sharing faith experiences together.

• We connect the church to the home by empowering parents to apply what is taught at the church to what happens at home so that faith is not just a “church thing” but a relationship with God all the time.

We invite you to consider joining with us as we work together to introduce our children, our youth and our families into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

NURSERY
~ Newborn to 24 months ~

Loving care-givers look after your child on Sunday morning from 10:15 am until the end of the worship service. The Nursery Program includes play and snacks. Pagers are provided for parents so you can be contacted during the worship service if a need arises (ie. diaper changes). Nursing area available.

kidquest-sundays
~ 2  years to grade 5 ~

In KidQuest Sundays (KQS), our goal is to help your child(ren) meet Jesus and follow Him in a welcoming and safe environment. Each week children learn a Bible story and memory verse, and discover practical ways they can live out their faith in the context of a small group. Our Sunday Morning Programs for children are divided into two main age groups:

PRESCHOOL
Rookie Explorers   2- 3 year olds
Junior Adventurers   JK to SK

ELEMENTARY
Senior Voyagers   Grades 1-2
Youth Trekkers   Grades 3-5

Sign-in is from 10:15 am just outside the sanctuary (children sit with parents until about 10:45 am. Sign-out from the program as soon as the service is finished (about 12 noon).

WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FIRST VISIT…

Look for the sign-in area in the upstairs foyer. We have volunteers handy to help you complete a Sunday Morning Registration Form (you are welcome to print and complete this ahead of time if you prefer). Upon completing the registration form, our volunteers will help you sign your child in to the age-appropriate group, and we will give your child(ren) a name tag to wear (you get a tag too) for the rest of the morning.

Once your child(ren) is/are registered and signed in, they get to sit with their parents in the sanctuary for the opening of the service until they are called to the front for a prayer before going downstairs all together (approximately 10:45AM). If your child is hesitant to go to the front of the church, feel free to go with them but please hand off your child to one of our volunteers once you’ve exited the Sanctuary. Our volunteers will then accompany your child(ren) downstairs to our Children’s Worship Area.

Children enjoy a time of age-graded programming, which includes stories, crafts/games, snacks and music.

AFTER THE SERVICE
After the service, you proceed downstairs to your child’s room and show your tag for your child to be released back to you. Our helpful volunteers are always ready and available to assist you with where to pick up your children!
AND DON’T FORGET…
THE RIDE HOME!
When you sign your child out, you will receive a handout (take-home) summarizing what happened this morning. On your way home, be sure to ask your child questions like, “Did you have fun?” and “What did you learn today?” It’s our goal that every child has a positive answer to these two questions, every week!

If you have any questions feel free to contact us via email: KidQuestSundays@winonagospelchurch.org. Our desire is that Sunday will become the best day of the week for your children!

Children’s Ministries

It is our desire and our privilege to labour in teaching children to love Jesus and follow Him.

WGC runs three main programs for Children, in addition to Special Events.
KidQuest Sundays is our Sunday morning programming for children Age 2 to Grade 5.  This program aims to develop children’s knowledge of God’s Word which tells us who He is and what He has done for us and how we can live a life for Him.  There is an in-class component to this teaching, and an at-home component for parents to do with their children, reinforcing the lessons taught and introducing memory verses for children to store up God’s Word in their heart.

Awana is a mid-week program that runs on Wednesday nights starting September and runs to May.  This program aims to teach children how to store up God’s Word in their hearts by memorizing scripture.  Each child receives a booklet that helps teach them Scripture.  In addition to this individual time, there is a lesson time and a time for fun and games! It is a great time for children’s fellowship and a safe place for them to learn skills like perseverance, teamwork and good sportsmanship.

KidQuest Camp is a Summer Day Camp program.  This Fun, Fantastic,Fabulous camp runs through July and August, has the funniest, most friendly counsellors and kids just love it! For more information check out the website!

Winona Gospel Church has vibrant and active Adult Ministries.  These groups provide a source of fellowship and a place where people can learn and develop their knowledge of the Lord and grow in their faith.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Worship

Our life is to be one in which everything we do and say is an act of worship which brings glory to our Lord.  The teaching of the Scriptures is key to planting the Truth of God into people’s hearts.  Every Sunday, we gather together to sing praise to God in song and to hear solid teaching from God’s Word.  By God’s grace we strive to be faithful in teaching the truth and looking to the Holy Spirit to grow hearts and minds so that each one of us can bring glory to our Lord in every aspect of our life.
All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises
to your name.

Worship at Winona Gospel Church is an opportunity to express our praise and devotion to a faithful God in unity, in spirit and in truth.  This is our joy and privilege! We eagerly worship in song, mixing praises from hymns of old and contemporary worship music, accompanied by a variety of mediums from organ to guitar to cajón.
Serve
Jesus said…

FOR EVEN THE SON OF MAN CAME NOT TO BE SERVED
BUT TO SERVE, AND TO
GIVE HIS LIFE
AS A RANSOM FOR MANY.
– Mark 10:45
Once a person has trusted Jesus as Saviour, and started to mature in their faith they will experience a desire to respond to His gift of grace by serving Him.  Serving is something that we are all called to do and it can take many forms.  At WGC there are many opportunities for people to serve the Lord.  Some tasks require special skills and others require simply a desire to serve – but there is something for everyone to do.  When a person begins serving the Lord in the local church, they build community, they experience fellowship and become invested in the spiritual health and growth of their church.

If you would like to get involved, but are uncertain of your gifts or how your gifts can be used to serve the church, Pastor Gino is available to meet with you to discuss your passions, skills and special gifts and help you discover a specific area of service.

Here are some ways for you to become involved in serving at WGC…

There are many ways to get involved!  Even if you don’t see it listed here,

used for serving the Lord through WGC.

Grow

Every one of us lives immersed in a world that is sending out messages about life, morality, values, needs, relationships and goals.  Literally thousands of messages are trying to influence us throughout every day.  How can we possibly know which message is the right one to follow?

Winona Gospel Church believes that the Bible is God’s Word for us, and provides us with instruction on all aspects of life.  So we can know what will please God and what will be best for us.  We are committed to helping people equip themselves to gain knowledge from the Bible.  We do this through Small Group Bible Studies for all ages.  Small Groups meet at various locations – at the church on Glover Road as well as in homes throughout the community.  In a Small Group, a facilitator helps guide people through a book in the Bible.  Each study time includes time for fellowship, reading and discussion of the selected scripture passage, and an opportunity to share and care for one another as various issues come up in peoples’ lives.  It is within small groups that people’s lives are changed and where people at WGC receive care.  The importance of teaching God’s Word is the focus of all of our programming from young children to adulthood.  The Word of God helps us to develop a biblical worldview where we can make wise decisions and live life that will bring Glory to God!  To find out more about our small groups…

Our Values

WE VALUE…
THE BIBLE
The Bible is God’s Word.  God’s Word is our authority for life and ministry.
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. – 2 Timothy 3:16-17, ESV
PRAYER
Praying according to God’s will reveals our dependence upon Him.
And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. – 1 John 5:14, ESV

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.  Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. – Matthew 6:9-13, ESV
RELATIONSHIPS
A RIGHT relationship with God produces RIGHT relationships with others.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. – Mark 12:30, ESV

The second is this: You shall love your neighbour as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these. – Mark 12:31, ESV
SERVING
Christ’s love compels us to use our gifts to bless others in practical ways.
Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.  Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.  As each has received a gift, us it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies – in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.  To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever.  Amen. – 1 Peter 4:8-11, ESV
EVANGELISM
A heart after God’s heart reaches out to the lost with the gospel, and helps them to follow Jesus and grow.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.  And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. – Matthew 28:19-20, ESV
FAMILY
God has created the family as the natural means for training children in righteousness.
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.  And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.  You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.  You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. – Deuteronomy 6:5-9, ESV

This is the Great Commission
The Great Commandment and the Great Commission given in scripture form the foundation of our VISION to:

Help People Meet Jesus and Follow Him

Winona Gospel Church is a community of believers who are committed to showing love to our neighbour by helping people  whether it is providing food for a family in need, helping people to move, caring for children, driving people to doctor’s appointments or providing medical care for people in Africa.  We are here to love people by helping people.  We are also committed to helping people meet.  One of the greatest problems in society today is loneliness and isolation.  By helping people make new friends and build relationships with people who care, they will experience the love of Jesus.  As they spend time together, our desire is that…

People Meet JESUS, the Saviour of the World

Our prayer is that people will see the very character of Jesus in our lives and come to know about Him through our actions and conversation.  We pray that God will encourage people to attend a Small Group Bible study or come to a worship hour and listen to the teaching from the Bible and meet other friends.  But most important, we pray that people will come into a relationship with Jesus by trusting Him as their personal Saviour.  As people go on this journey of meeting Jesus, we teach and encourage people to follow Him and GROW.

      • on following weeks, you will only need to complete a health check and sign in your child using the link that will be emailed to you Sunday morning.
  • If your child has a place reserved for them in KQ Sunday programming, you will receive an email on Sunday morning with a reminder to complete a health check and to electronically sign your child in to KQ Sunday.

Sign-In
On Sunday mornings, please complete the electronic health check and Sign-in that you will receive via email Sunday morning.  When you arrive at church, the doors on the left of the main front entrance will be unlocked from 9:45 -10:00am for dropping off your child. We ask that only one parent come with the child(ren) registered for the program that day (other family members may proceed through the doors on the right, to their seats in the sanctuary). If possible, we ask that your child not bring any items into the program.  Due to the possibility of line-ups, please be prepared to wait until the area in front of you clears before proceeding to the Sign-in station to drop off your child.

Pick-Up After Service
As soon as the service is finished, please take your pager (if given one) and return to the Sign-in station to retrieve your child.

Please Note…
We will do our best to maintain physical distance between children during the morning’s activities (Bible teaching, songs, snack, colouring, play), but cannot guarantee this. We will provide an individually packaged snack and drink of water for each child.

AND DON’T FORGET…
NURSERY
~ Newborn to 30 months ~

At this time, we are pleased to be able to offer a Nursery Program! Please reserve a place for your little one using the church sign-up link when you are signing up for Sunday morning worship.

AND DON’T FORGET…
THE RIDE HOME!
On your way home, be sure to ask your child questions like, “Did you have fun?” and “What did you learn today?” “What was the BIG IDEA?” It’s our goal that every child has a positive answer to these important questions, every week!

Our desire is that Sunday will be the best day of the week for every child!
If you have any questions, please contact us via email: KidQuestSundays@winonagospelchurch.org
